Obituary of Perry Hazen Hatfield

It is with sadness that the family of Perry Hatfield announce his passing at Central New Brunswick Nursing Home on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at the age of 81. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, on September 20, 1943, he was the husband of the late Freda Alberta (Brown) Hatfield.

 

Perry leaves behind his brothers, Stephen (Dorothy) and Brian Hatfield (late Laura) and sister, Carolyn LeBlanc (late Edmond). He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Linda L. Derrah; stepdaughter-in-law, Leola Derrah (late Lynnwood); three step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, Freda, Perry was predeceased by his parents, Perry and Mary (Walton) Hatfield; brother, Johnny Hatfield (late Joanne), and infant sisters, Wanda and Alice.

 

Perry began his career working with the Canadian Coast Guard and then went on to Transport Canada, working at the Fredericton Airport.

 

Perry was a Session elder and member of Oromocto United Church. He was involved with F.S.N.A. and worked with the Alzheimer’s group in Oromocto. He was a volunteer with the Capital Credit Union, later the Progressive Credit Union, and was a union leader for P.S.A.C.

 

Perry’s family wish to thank his longtime family doctor, Dr. Vaughan Roxborough, and Dr. Tim Snell who attended to him in hospital. Thank you also to Dr. Nadeau, Dr. Wood and all the nurses and staff at Central New Brunswick Nursing Home for the excellent care Perry received. Special thank you to Owen and Pat Taylor, who were regular visitors of Perry, and all the patients at Central New Brunswick Nursing Home who have been like family to Perry for the last five years.
