Obituary of Stanley Roger Crawford
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley Roger Crawford, a devoted husband, cherished father, loyal friend, and proud veteran, who left us unexpectedly of a heart attack on May 9, 2025.
Stanley is survived by his of wife of 59 years, Merlene; two children, Steven (Marlène) of Montreal PQ, and Beverly (Adam) of St. Albert, AB, and his three grandchildren, Liam, 13, Amelia, 26, and Rachel, 24.
Stanley, known as Roger by his siblings, will also be sadly missed by his sisters, Barbara (Michel), Carol, and Heather, all of Halifax, and one brother, Douglas (Barbara), of Riverview NB. He leaves behind eleven nieces and nephews.
A proud member of the Royal Canadian Signals Corps, Stanley served his country for 17 years with honour within Canada and on a peacekeeping tour in Cyprus. He carried the values of loyalty and camaraderie into every aspect of his life. His humour was mischievous but always kind, he could light up any room with his wit, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. He treated everyone with the same level of respect regardless if he was ordering his morning coffee or talking to the CEO of the hospital. When he left the military, he carved out a career at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, first in housekeeping and eventually as a driver supplies clerk.
As a self-taught woodworker, he used his skills to make many beautiful wood bowls and a lot of sawdust. He volunteered for many years as an umpire for Oromocto Minor Baseball, eventually coordinating all of the umpires in the local area. He had a good eye for photography, and he loved curling and being active in nature. He was an avid gardener, but despite his best efforts he could never grow a good cucumber.
Stanley’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and an unyielding zest for life. He taught his children the importance of integrity, being curious, and finding joy in the little things.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, beginning at 2:00pm, at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Mary Tingly. There will be a Legion Tribute directly preceeding the funeral, beginning at 1:45pm.We will honour his memory in the way he would have wanted—with laughter and stories. All who knew and loved Stanley are invited to join us in celebrating a life well-lived and a man deeply loved and respected.
In lieu of flowers, and in honour of Stanley’s generous spirit and commitment to helping others, the family kindly invites you to donate to the Royal Canadian Legion, Canadian Cancer Society, or the Chalmers Foundation.
