Obituary of Peter David Tulk
May 6, 1952-June 1st, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter David Tulk on June 1st, 2025 at the Dr. Everett Chalmer’s Hospital after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loved ones until the end.
Peter will be deeply missed by his wife of over 50 years, Debbie, and his children, Jill (Jay) and Adam (Anca); his cherished grandson and best buddy, Noah; his furever girl, Bella, and honorary “Tulk”, Brad Mahar.
Peter is survived by his siblings: Paul “Rick” Tulk (Tulla), John Tulk (Valerie), Andrew Tulk (late Sue), Bill Tulk (Cindy), and Christina Riley (Rob). He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Foster (late Richard), Mary Ellen Barker (Galane), and brother-in-law Terry Gilbert (Cathy), along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret (Power) Tulk, his mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Joseph Gilbert and his brother-in-law, Dan Gilbert (Deb).
Peter came to Oromocto when he was 15, as his father was posted to CFB Gagetown. He lived for his sports. In his early years, you could find him strapping up his goalie pads for the Comets in the winter or on a pitcher’s mound with the Pirates in the summer. He was also an avid golfer and could always be seen on the links at the Gage, which is why Adam gave him the nickname PT Woods.
Peter spent his career working for the Construction Engineering Branch at Base Gagetown. When he wasn’t working or playing sports, he kept himself busy building, designing or renovating; he always had a project on the go. Most recently he helped design and renovate his son’s new health clinic in BC.
Peter was a devoted and hands-on father who took great pride in supporting his children’s passions. Whether it was founding a fast pitch league in Oromocto so Jill could play ball or helping to create a junior golf program for Adam, Peter was always there—coaching, encouraging, and ensuring they had everything they needed. He always showed up for them.
Once his kids were grown, he could be found watching Noah play hockey and volleyball and more recently they were able to share the love of golf together. Nothing made him happier than when Noah decided to get a membership at the Gage.
Peter’s conviction in his beliefs garnered respect from all who knew him. His loyalty, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be remembered always. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A special thank you to the Oromocto Extra-Mural team as well as the Dr’s and Nurses at the DECH Palliative care unit for their compassion and care.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Oromocto Legion, June 21st, 2025, from 1-4pm. Please come ready to share your good memories and fun stories of Peter. There are expected to be many. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory may be made to Fredericton Homeless Shelters Inc., Oromocto SPCA, or the Oromocto Food Bank
