Obituary of Joyce Thorne
The family of Muriel Joyce (Chapman) Thorne is saddened to announce her passing on June 17, 2025, at the Mill Cove Nursing Home.
Mum was born on September 23, 1929, in Lower Cambridge, New Brunswick, and grew up there on the family farm with her brothers and sisters. After marrying Niven Thorne in 1949, she moved a few miles up the road where she raised their three sons. She worked at several jobs over the years including teaching school and working for the Loomcrofters, but her family and her faith in God were always her priorities. Mum was an avid bird enthusiast and faithfully recorded all of her sightings over the years. She was also an accomplished singer, and spent many happy years with the Gloria Dei Singers. After Niven’s passing in 2020, she became a resident of the Mill Cove Nursing Home, to whom we extend a heartfelt thank you for the kind treatment she received there.
Mum was predeceased by her husband of over 70 years, Niven Thorne; parents, Ralph and Florence (Holder) Chapman; brothers, Ernest, Allan, and Laurence, and sisters, Isabel, Lillian Pugsley, and Lucille Gunter.
She is survived by her three sons, Neil (Debbie), Nelson (Roberta), and Noel (Stacey); four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, plus several nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation at the First Cambridge Baptist Church at McDonald’s Corner, 11 Church Lane, Cambridge-Narrows, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, from 2:00 – 4:00pm, followed by a brief graveside service at the church cemetery. A reception will follow in the church basement. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the First Cambridge Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.
