Obituary of Leila Margaret Levison
The family of Leila Margaret Levison sadly announces her passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, in Fredericton, on Monday, August 25, 2025. She was born on September 12, 1935, to the Late Elzie and Greta Howe (Harrison) in Tweedsmuir, NB.
Leila will be dearly missed by her children, son Tim Levison (Donna) and daughter, Susie Levison-Lister (Brian); grandson, Jared Lister; granddaughter, Jenna Levison; great grandchildren, Brennan and Sienna Levison, Brooks and Boden Lister; step-grandsons, Chris & Jon Lister, as well as additional family and friends.
She also leaves behind three brothers, Everett, Richard, and Elzie Howe; five sisters, Elva Carr, Violet Cummings, Eleanor Fidler (Fred), Lena Mitchell, and Greta Carr (Larry). Leila was predeceased by her husband, Donnie Levison; her parents, Elzie & Greta; brothers, Edward, William, and Leon Howe; sister, Alberta Mowatt (Cogswell); as well as many nieces and nephews. Leila adored her children and grandchildren. They were the pride and joy of her life.
Leila was an excellent cook and obtained her chef licence in 1972. She worked at Base Gagetown for many years. She was a very active member in the Federated Women's Institute of Canada and also was a member of the Pentecostal Church in Geary.
Leila was an avid angler and especially loved to fish on Oromocto Lake in her paddle boat, where on many occasions, she would hook a large mouth bass that would pull her across the lake. She didn't like to take her catch off her line so she would paddle back to shore to get Donnie to remove the fish. One time, she became very brave and tried to remove her catch by herself, only ending up at the Harvey Hospital with a hook in her finger, worm still attached.
Leila also loved nature and being outdoors, whether it be at the lake, in her garden, or exploring the numerous county roads with her sister, Lena, scouting for wildlife.
Leila found great comfort and strength in her faith, which guided her through her life, especially after the loss of her dear husband, Donnie. Her children say that during these last eight weeks of her life, while hospitalized, she told them not to worry about her, that she was ready to meet her God, and to be with their dad.
Visitation will be held at Oromocto Funeral Home on Friday, August 29, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A private burial will take place later that day. For those who wish, donations in Leila’s memory may be made to the Geary, French Lake, Waterville Cemetery Committee Inc.
