Obituary of Peter Alexander Gaigneur

It is with sadness that the family of Peter Gaigneur announces his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at the age of 88. Born in Glace Bay, NS, on February 17, 1937, he was the husband of Henrietta (Wadden) Gaigneur of Haneytown.

In addition to his wife, Henrietta, Peter leaves behind his sons, Rick and James Gaigneur (Sandy); granddaughter, Alexandra Gaigneur; sister, Diane Marr (Mickey MacGillivary); several nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Laura (Taylor) Gaigneur, and by his brother, Richard “Butch” Gaigneur.

Peter served as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for twenty-five years, serving in the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada, as well as in the Royal Canadian Regiment. After his retirement he continued to work for many years at the CANEX outlet at CFB Gagetown.

Visitation will be held at Oromocto Funeral Home on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A private family interment will take place at a later time. For those who wish, donations in Peter’s memory may be made to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation.
