Obituary of John Thomas Young

With great sadness, we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, John Thomas Young, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Sept 8, 2025.

Jack was born on July 2, 1938 in Glace Bay Nova Scotia. He grew up in Dominion, Nova Scotia, along with the love of his life of 63 years.     

He is survived by his loving wife Murdena Young, his son Shannon Young, daughters Jacquelyn Courtice (Bill), Kim Young, and his grandsons Billy Courtice (Lindsay) and Marco Ross.

Jack was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces, serving with the RCHA for 38 years. His career took him on 3 tours of Europe which allowed he and his family to travel extensively to which he so enjoyed.

Jack could be seen out walking many hours on the paths of the Canada Trail daily. His family will smile each time they hear a song he liked. He was notorious of making up his own words to these songs to which we would all laugh about.

Jack was an avid reader, owned many books, a history buff, was always interested in current events and worldly affairs.

Dad was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will always be so greatly missed.

We extend much appreciation to all the great care he received at the Veteran’s Health Unit during this past year.

Also we like to thank Dr. Kathleen Taylor, Dr. Jessica Inglis and the many nurses who showed such compassion in his final hours.

A graveside service will be held at the Oromocto Pioneer Gardens Cemetery on Monday, September 15^th at 2pm with Fr. Calistus Abazi officiating.
