Obituary of Michael Vernon Merrett

The family of Michael “Mike” Merrett announces his passing on October 1^st, 2025, in Fredericton, NB, surrounded by his children, Jennifer King (Shawn), Bradley Merrett (Stephanie Engleheart), Tyler Merrett, and Angela Rodday Thompson (Corey).

He was born in Blacks Harbour to the late Margaret (Lloyd) Merrett and Maurice Justason. Mike grew up in Geary, NB, with his siblings, Billy, Ricky, Steve, Alice, Susan (Ralph), Wanda, Linda (Don), and Karen.

He was dearly loved in his community and often the life of the party! As a cab driver, he was known for taking us where we were going, and we all knew he loved hearing the gossip. He loved to kick butt at darts, and could be found camping with his friends and family from spring ‘till fall.

Mike will be missed by his children; grandchildren, Kori, Riley, Cohen, Kaleb, Abigail, and Sheldon; great-grandchildren, Mya, and Oliver, as well as his many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, Margaret and Alan Merrett, as well as his girlfriend, Bonnie Rodday.

The family will lay him to rest with his beloved Bonnie Rodday on Wednesday, October 8^th, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Maugerville United Baptist Cemetery. In celebration of Mike’s life, friends and family will gather at Mike's house, 16 Colburn Dr., Geary, NB, on Saturday, October 11^th, 2025, starting at 2:00 pm.  All who loved him are welcome. Please bring your favorite dish to share.
