Obituary of William Richard Whittaker

It is with great sadness that the family of William Whittaker announces his peaceful passing at Oromocto Hospital in Oromocto, NB on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the age of 79. William was born in Sand Brook, NB on July 26, 1946 to the late Helen M.E. Whittaker (Grasse) and late Walter E. Whittaker.

William leaves behind his daughter, Julie Whittaker (Rodney); his grandson, Forrest Robichaud (Shyanne); and three great grandchildren, Dakota, Ella, and Joseph. Also left to mourn are his siblings, one brother, Ernest (Carolyn); three sisters, Grace Stafford, Nora Sowers, Florence Whittaker, and their extended families, including many nieces and nephews. William will be greatly missed by his lifelong best friend, and mother of his daughter, Linda Mills.

William was predeceased by his parents, as well as his sisters, Marion Graham and Eva Taylor.

William was a kind soul who loved all sports, with an unwavering loyalty to his baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. He was very compassionate and had a special bond with all animals, mastering the ability to gain the trust of all he encountered. His overall love was for nature and being outside. He spent many hours teaching his daughter, Julie, about sunsets, ‘reading’ the sky, trees, gardening, swimming, and his love of nature in general. He unfortunately had to accept defeat on teaching her how to hit a baseball.

William’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the care and support provided during the last leg of his journey; particularly the amazing staff and special nurses at the Med 1 unit of Oromocto Hospital, as well as Dr. Reid. A special thank you to the pharmacy team at Shoppers Drug Mart, Kings Place, Fredericton, NB who went above and beyond for William and his family.

At William’s request, there will not be any visitation, however a private graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in a William's name made to your local SPCA or the Nature Conservancy of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
