Obituary of Edith Marilyn Warren

On November 27th, 2025, Edith “Edie” Marilyn Warren (nee Merrett) peacefully kicked her bucket surrounded by family at her Thomas Hall residence in Fredericton, N.B. Although a strong and determined woman who kept her personality intact, her body was overcome by complications related to an aggressive form of MS. She and her humorous nature will be sadly missed – especially by those who she teased or who teased her the most.

Edie popped into the world on March 21st, 1954 in Fredericton, N.B. and is survived by, William “Bill” Keys and kin, daughter, Lori; son, James “Jamie”;  and their father, Lawrence “Larry” and kin; grandson, Ryan (Cassandra “Cass”) Warren; great-granddaughter, Audrey; chosen granddaughter, Kym Quirion and her son, Carter; brother, Steadman “Stead” and sister-in-law, Albina Merrett of Mission, B.C.; sisters, Sheila Noble (Neil), Deborah Munn, and Doreen Merrett; brothers-in-law, Dale Nason and Richard Shepherd, several nieces, nephews and their families, and many cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, William “Stanley” and Annie Merrett (nee Currie), brother, Edward; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Ewart “Bud” Rushton and their son, Stephen, their daughter and another son, their grandson, Erich Rushton, granddaughter, Nicole Mynard and her twin sons, Ethan and Liam, by another sister, Lela Shephard and her daughter, Amanda “Mandy”; brother-in-law, Duncan Munn, as well as nephew Keyan Noble.

Many may remember Edie from her years of service at Merve’s Bakery, the Co-Op Bakery or when she worked at the airport café getting flight meals ready, making the fluffiest western sandwiches and working the till – almost all at the same time. Whether on the job or at home, she was an amazing cook and baker. Feasting has not been the same without her.

In her “free time” she was also a wrangler: my brother when he wandered off, sisters to go on outings or family events, cows and hay with Bill, or Jamie and other family for the Sussex flee market.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the medical team and many staff at Shannex-Thomas Hall for their care and attention that welcomed her, and especially as her illness progressed. A special thank you to the palliative team that supported Edie in her last days. Of special mention is Diane Boardman, Edie’s Friendly Visitor. Diane has been a consistent presence over the past couple of years wheeling Edie around inside and outside the Shannex grounds and beyond on adventures, satisfying her curiosity; shopping for treats and gifts; and making mealtime more enjoyable for her – especially Edie’s last meal, ensuring much lemonade was consumed – one of Edie’s favourites. Rest well mum.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Oromocto Funeral Home. As per Edie’s wishes, there will be a family graveside service only. Interment will be on Wednesday December 3rd at 2 pm in St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church Cemetery, 373 Route 101, New Maryland, N.B. All who consider themselves family are welcome to attend. Chairs and blankets will be available for those in need. For those who were unable to attend, or wish to see it again, a video of Edie's graveside service can be watched here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXcEnYQT76Q. There will be a post-burial gathering at the Swiss Chalet. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Edie can be made to the MS Society Canada, the Oromocto SPCA or charity of choice.
