Obituary of Rosella Anna Theresa Sexton

Rosella Anna Theresa Sexton, wife of the late George William “Bill” Sexton, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on January 12, 2026, at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Born to the late Hector and Avellia (Nicholson) Hubert, in Westville, NS, on March 27, 1928, she was affectionately known as Rose to her friends.

Rosella is survived by and will be greatly missed by all her children, Louise Sexton, Lorna Wilcox, Marie Carroll (Mike), Joan Paul (Gary), Bill Sexton (Kim), and Noreen Robellard. She will also be missed by her 6 grandchildren; Trina Wilcox, Erica Wilcox, Jennifer Paul, Shawn Carroll, Robert Carroll, and Gregory Robellard; as well as her 12 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Rose was predeceased by her husband of 49 years in 1990; by her brother, Vernon, and his wife, Helen; her grandson, Kevin Sexton, and by two great grandchildren, Monique Paul and John Paul.

Mom had a gift for capturing the hearts of many. People loved her. She treated everyone with love and respect and accepted them for who they were. Everyone was always asking us, “how is your mother? she is such a nice lady!” We were very blessed to have her as long as we did.

After high school she went to business college, then worked at Fraser Mason and Fraser in New Glasgow, and then to Ottawa to work for Supertest Oil and Petroleum, where she stayed until she married our father. Living the life of a military wife, she loved being a housewife and mother and never once regretted her choice or decision. Mom loved being around her family and loved each and everyone of us equally. She would do anything for us (unless it was her bingo night, lol) as that was her choice of recreation and fun.

Mom spent the last 11 months in the hospital, 9 of them in Oromocto Public Hospital, where she was treated with so much love from all the staff, and she loved them as much as they loved her. They would come in daily to give hugs and kisses and some would come by for a visit on their lunch break even when they weren’t her nurse for the day. When we walked through the hallway, she loved all the attention she got from everyone. She would beam and it made her feel so special.

Our family wants to thank each and everyone, from the nurses on Med 1, doctors, physio, and personal support workers who took care of mom for the last year. Also, the cleaners who would entertain her when they came in and cleaned her room and the staff and greeters at the door who would ask how mom was doing every day. It was above and beyond and greatly appreciated!

There will be no visitation by request. A family graveside service for Rose will be held in the spring. For those who wish, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Oromocto Public Hospital Foundation.
