Obituary of David Marc Pierce
It is with profound sadness that the family of David Marc Pierce announce his passing on February 4, 2026, at the age of 51. David was born on April 3, 1974, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as Colin Phillip Hewlett to his mom, Gail Butler nee Hewlett. He was then adopted by his loving parents, Carolyn and David Pierce.
Dave spent the majority of his career as a proud infantry soldier posted to 2RCR Gagetown. He was a Lav driver and a bag piper for the 2RCR pipes and drums. Eventually he was promoted to the pipe major and master corporal. Dave was deployed to Haiti and Afghanistan where he proudly served his country. Dave retired in 2011 as our hero.
Dave had many passions in his life which included music. His band, PTSDave and the Night Sweats, gave him an opportunity to share this passion with the community that he loved. He shared his love of cooking with his kids and you never went away hungry when he was cooking.
Dave’s proudest achievement in life was being a father. He is survived by his 3 children, Ceilidh Pierce (Michael), Caitlyn Cull (Adrian), and Aidan Pierce (Joey); his wife, Cathy Cusack-Pierce; his mother, Gail Butler; his father, David Pierce and step mother, Enid and father, Leo Head; brothers, Jarod Pierce, Aaron Butler, Saul Butler; mother-in-law, Gail Cusack; brother-in-law, Chris Cusack (Jennifer); nieces, Elanor and Hannah Butler; best friend, Bryan Hilson; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles; and his beloved fur babies, Coop, Bella, and Creed.
Dave was predeceased by his mother, Carolyn Pierce; step father, Wayne Butler; father-in-law, Ernie Cusack; his beloved Nan Sharpe; and his fur babies, OJ, Nicco, Maggie, and Tyson, as well as his many brothers-in-arms.
