Obituary of Thomas Gilbert

It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas “Tim” Arthur Gilbert announces his passing on February 7th, 2026, at home surrounded by the love of his family. Born on February 18th, 1955, in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Thomas W. and Beatrice “Betty” F. (McCaffrey) Gilbert.

Tim was a lifelong resident of Burton and was known to everyone in the community. While working at NB Power for over 30 years, he also assisted with the family farm and helped friends and neighbours alike. The word “no” was not in Tim’s vocabulary. For his family and friends he was often the first call to fix a washing machine, cut firewood, plow a driveway, or troubleshoot any number of problems. Helping people was Tim’s way of expressing love. 

Tim was a quiet and gentle man, known for his kindness and generosity. He fiercely loved his family and always looked forward to spending time with his children. He especially doted on his granddaughters. He always made time for them, showing them the finer things in life - hunting, fishing, wheeling, operating a tractor, driving a car and exploring the outdoors. He attended many of their sporting events and celebrated their accomplishments. 

Tim will be greatly missed by his loving spouse, Gisele (Hudon) Gilbert; children, Nina McCarthy (John), and Joseph Gilbert (Jessica); grandchildren, Abbie McCarthy, Mercedes and Mckenzie Gilbert; siblings, Cathy Bettle (Ken), George Gilbert (the late Debbie), Greg Gilbert (Lynda), Malcolm Gilbert (Melisa), Eleanor Lindsay (Ted), Gerard Gilbert (Sharon), Tony Gilbert (Monica), Mary Cozzarini (Elio), Patricia Russell (Harold), Charles Gilbert (Prema), Anne Gilbert (Blaine), and Susan Bouwer (Neil), as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Palliative Care Team, including Dr. Gord MacDonald and the Extra Mural Team whose care and kindness was immeasurable. 

Visitation will take place on Monday, February 16th, 2026 at Oromocto Funeral Home from 2 pm - 4 pm and 6 pm - 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 17th, 2026 at 10 am.
