Obituary of Joan Kathleen Hall

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joan Katleen Hall on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 25, 1965, Joan was the daughter of the George Frederick Peter Hall and Nora Frances (Colwell) Hall.

Joan moved to New Brunswick when she was 3, as her father was posted to CFB Gagetown. She attended school in Oromocto, with 1 year spent at Rothsay Netherwood School in St. John, NB. She then returned to finish school in Oromocto.

After graduation, Joan moved to the Yukon in 1993 where she worked in Women's Shelters, which she found to be very rewarding. She then moved back to Oromocto in 2004 and furthered her education, going to NBCC and completing the Early Childhood Education Training Couse. With that, she worked in daycares and also spent many years as Home Care worker. She truly enjoyed helping people.

To know Joan was to love her. She had a way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met—whether it was through her quick wit, her ability to make people laugh when it was needed most, or just listening and offering advice when asked. She lived life on her own terms, with a spirited and strong-willed nature that those closest to her knew well and loved her for. That stubborn streak of hers was simply part of her charm.

Joan liked to go off-roading and exploring in her van; there wasn’t a side road or dirt road she wouldn’t take. She loved going to New River Beach, camping, cross country skiing.  She spent at lot of time at the Upper Gagetown wharf fishing and socializing.  She would talk to anyone and everyone. Joan was also an animal lover; there wasn’t a stray cat she wouldn’t bring home.

Practical jokes were a common theme with the Hall family, especially at Christmas time where a pair of skis could turn into a palm tree, or you could get roped into wrapping or building your own gift thinking it was meant for someone else.

She is survived by her uncles, Keith Hall (Nancy), Duane Hall (Sheila); aunts, Ket Smith (Glenn), Margaret Wilkinson, Stu Colwell (Adelle); lots of cousins and extended family, and her fur babies, Morris, Lily, and Smoky. Although Joan didn’t have children of her own, she held a special role as an honorary aunt to many and will be deeply missed by them.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her grandparents, and her uncle John Colwell (Alga).

In keeping with Joan’s wishes, you are invited to join her family and friends for a time of celebration at the home of Sue Carmichael on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 PM at 916 Route 102, Swan Creek, NB. This will be a casual gathering—just as Joan would have wanted—so come as you are and bring your stories and memories.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses of the Emergency Department and Palliative Care at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital for all they did to make Joan as comfortable as possible.

For those wishing to honor Joan’s name, a donation can be made to the Oromocto SPCA or donors’ choice.
