Obituary of Wilfred Norris McEachern

Wilfred Norris McEachern passed away April 27, 2026 at Hospice Fredericton with his loving family at his side. He was born on February 5, 1945 to the late Kenneth Scott McEachern and Iva Marie (Landry) McEachern the eldest of nine children in River Hebert Nova Scotia. He began work early at the age of eleven at a grocery store in River Hebert. Then he worked on his uncle farm and joined the Reserve in Amherst Nova Scotia at the age of fifteen. He always wanted to join the Canadian Armed Forces. He was inspired by his Uncle Bedford McEachern who had served.  He joined the Black Watch at the age of seventeen and began his career at Base Gagetown. When the Black Watch disbanded, he joined 2RCR. In 1979 he changed his career and became a Material Technician Air Force. He was posted to Greenwood, Nova Scotia where he worked until 1982 when he was posted back to Base Gagetown. There he returned to 2RCR. He retired from the military in 1985, but then went back to work as a civilian in the Tailor Shop at Base Gagetown.  Then for a few years he also worked part time at the Tailor Shop finally retiring at the age of seventy-two. He also was with the Reserve in Fredericton for ten years.

 

He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed having coffee with his friends at McDonalds. He and his wife Theresa took many trips together and had lots of good memories.

 

He is survived by his wife, Theresa of 61 years, His daughter Michelle (Stephane), three wonderful grandchildren, Danyel, Emily (Ross), Alyssa (Adam) of whom he was very proud, three sisters Cathy, Ruby, and Rose (Alan), three brothers Peter (Brenda), Jimmy (Jean), and Stephen (Sheree), as well as many nieces and nephews and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Also, his little buddy Rocky who came to visit him.

 

Beside his parents he was predeceased by his son Kenneth, brother Weldon, sister Bertha Diane, his in-laws Stephen and Pearle Comeau who loved him like a son, brother-in-law Richard, sisters in laws Barbara and Carol and also many good military and civilian friends. He was a good husband, father and friend. He will be forever missed.

 

A visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 11 am at St. Vincent de Paul Church with Fr. Callistus Abazie celebrating.  Interment will take place in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery.
