Obituary of Brent David (Arvard) Merrill (Harris)

The family of Brent David Merrill (born Brent Arvard Harris) sadly announces he passed away on April 7, 2026. He was born on June 16, 1965 to Arvard Kenneth Harris and Faye Joy Brawn in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Brent was the type of person who could take broken things apart and make them work again. He had a brilliant mind for fixing motors of all kinds, and especially loved buying broken-down cars and getting them running again. He enjoyed working with his hands and was a talented mechanic.

A dad to five children whom he loved dearly, Brent was proud to be a stay-at-home dad to his youngest three when they were babies, spending his days feeding, bathing, and watching them grow. As his kids got older, he spoke of them often, and never missed a chance to tell anyone who would listen about their latest accomplishments.

In addition to his mother, Faye, Brent will be sadly missed by his children, Michael Carr, Tealen Durant, and Annie and Alexander Tavender; grandchildren, Jada, Mila, Theo, and Destiny; sister, Shelly Harris; brother, Perry Merrill; half-brother, Robbie Harris; many aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, and several cousins.

Brent was predeceased by his father, Arvard; brother, Michael Harris; a baby sister lost in infancy, and his daughter, Kayla Carr.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Oromocto Funeral Home in Oromocto, NB. A funeral service will be held the following day on Friday May 15, 2026 beginning at 11:00 am. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Oromocto Food Bank, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
