Obituary of Melvin "Buddy" Leonard McAleer
It is with great sadness that the family of Melvin Leonard “Buddy” McAleer wish to announce his passing which occurred on May 30th, 2026, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Born in Wirral, NB, on November 11th, 1931, he was the son of the late James Leonard and Florence (Wallace) McAleer.
Buddy spent most of his life living in Wirral where he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a love of outdoors and nature. Buddy was a humble man and had a quiet strength within him. His love for playing crib was evident as he would never pass up a game when company stopped by. Some of his greatest joy was with visits from his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters; Marion Wilson, Leona McAlary, Vida Clark, Velma Finnigan and brothers, Clifford and Grovsnor McAleer.
He will be deeply missed by his sister, Evelyn (Dolly) Pearson of Armstrong, B.C. as well as many nephews and nieces and extended family.
Arrangements are under the care of Oromocto Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago Street, Oromocto. (506) 357-5100. A gravesite burial will take place on Saturday, June 13th, 2026 at 10:00 am at South Oromocto Lake Cemetery in Clarendon, New Brunswick. Donations in memory of Melvin “Buddy” can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
