Obituary of Patricia Viola Mercer
Patricia Viola Mercer (nee Joy) passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, New Brunswick at the age of 80.
She was a woman of remarkable strength, determination and independence. She lived life on her own terms and guided by her personal convictions rather than the expectations of others. Fiercely protective of those she loved and unwavering in the face of adversity, she met life’s challenges with tenacity and determination. She loved deeply, never hesitated to speak her mind, would stand her ground, and defended the people she cared about the most.
She leaves behind her sisters' Leona (Jack Baker), Katherine Joy (aka Kitty), Clara (Patrick Carrol); her brother, Walter Joy (Sandra); her daughters, Sherry Croucher (Shawn) and Judy Pope (Stewart); and her 3 grandchildren, Dayne Croucher, Taylor Pope and Courtney (Croucher) (Joshua Fillmore), who will always cherish her love, strength and unforgettable spirit.
She was predeceased by her parents, Walter Joy and Mary (nee Russell); the love of her life, Reginald (Reggie) Mercer; her siblings, Lillian, Thomas, Pauline, Loretta (Lloyd Bartlett), Yvonne (Lawerence Baker) and Francis (Mildred).
Although she is no longer with us, her determination, fierce love and unique way of seeing the world will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Oromocto SPCA (https://www.oromoctospca.com/donateospca) or the Kidney Foundation of Canada (https://kidney.ca/en/).
