Obituary of James Edward Shute

It is with deep sadness that the family of James Edward Shute, announces his passing on June 20, 2026 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.  Born on October 22, 1944 in Chester, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Frederick and Olive Shute.

James lived a rich and vibrant life centered around the outdoors, his family, and his community. As a respected fireman for the Oromocto Fire Department and a founding volunteer member of the Upper Gagetown Fire Department, he protected and served his community.  He was an avid fisherman, trapper, and a skilled moose caller who delighted in teaching these traditions to his grandchildren. James was deeply involved in his children's lives and loved to cook and barbecue for his family. During the spring, he spent his time preparing for gardening.  He was also a constant presence in the Gagetown area, often taking bike rides or drives on the base. He had a special place in his heart for his dogs, Beckett and later Sammy, who accompanied him on his drives.  In his younger years he played a lot of sports, hockey, baseball, bowling and traveled to the states for competitions with his teams.

Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Myrtle Allen; his children, James (Chantelle) of Gagetown, Peter of Upper Gagetown and Patricia of Gagetown; grandchildren, Allyson (Simon); Marissa, Cameron, Tegan; Savannha, Brooklyn, Thomas, Hunter (Natalie) and Dawson (Hannah); siblings, Linda of Winnipeg, MB; Gary of Musquodoboit Harbour, NS, Barbara of Toronto, ON, Peggy of Amherst, NS, John and Freddi both of  London, ON; as well as  many cousins, nieces and nephews.   Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Jeanne, Michael and Doug.

A visitation will be held at Oromocto Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.  A funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 2 pm at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel.
