Obituary of William Patrick Wilmot

The family of William Patrick “Bill” Wilmot are sad to announce his passing on July 1, 2026 at the Dr Everett Chalmer’s Hospital (DECH), Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Born on December 24, 1931 he was the son of the late Stella MacDonald.

Most will remember Bill through his years of service with the Royal Canadian Armed Forces. Joining in 1956, he was a proud member of the Black Watch and Royal Canadian Hussars before his retirement after 25 years in 1981. During those years, his tours included Germany, Cyprus, and Egypt and saw him receive the following medals: United Nations (Cyprus), United Nations Emergency Force (Egypt), Canadian Forces Decoration and Clasp. Throughout his career he was stationed in Germany and CFB Petawawa, but ultimately finished his career in CFB Gagetown and settled in Oromocto.

Not one to sit idly by, Bill went to work at Green Village Nursery and landscaping, where he happily helped out with everything from carrying potting soil to planting seedlings. By the mid ‘90’s he decided it was time to slow down, so he retired to enjoy fishing, hunting, and golf. When he wasn’t in the outdoors, he loved to travel to spend time with his family.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Emma (nee Muir); children, Marjorie (Ted), Billie, Liz (Denis), Colin, Joyce, Steven (Imelda), Susan (Kerry), and Kathy (David ); 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his grandson, Colin Junior.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff, nurses, and doctors of the 3rd floor at the DECH and Windsor Court for all the kindness and caring shown to Bill over this difficult time.

Oromocto Funeral Home has been entrusted with Bill’s final arrangements. A graveside service will be held at the Geary, French Lake, Waterville Cemetery on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 4:00 pm. For those who wish, donations in Bill’s name may be made to the Geary, French Lake, Waterville Cemetery Fund. To leave a message of condolence, please visit www.OromoctoFH.com.
