Obituary of Edgar Joseph LaViolette

It is with great sadness that the family of Edgar Joseph LaViolette announce his peaceful passing at home on July 17, 2026, at the age of 87.

Born on February 1, 1939, in Charlo, New Brunswick, Edgar was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Mabel (Maltis) LaViolette.

Edgar lived a full and meaningful life, one that was centred around family, hard work, and the simple pleasures he enjoyed most. He spent 40 years working at the pulp and paper mill in Dalhousie, where he served as a Union Rep and earned the respect of his colleagues through his dedication, leadership, and strong work ethic.

Outside of work, Edgar found great joy in the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, and spending time in nature. In his younger years, he worked with horses and developed a lifelong appreciation for them. He also had a true passion for horse racing and enjoyed following the races throughout his life. He was a loyal Montreal Canadiens fan and always enjoyed the thrill of finding a good bargain.

Above all, Edgar was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He and his wife, Mona, built their life together in Dalhousie, where they raised their family, before later moving to Fredericton to be closer to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Edgar will be remembered for his warm sense of humour, his wonderful storytelling, and his ability to bring laughter to those around him. He had a generous heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, quiet strength, and love.

Edgar leaves behind his loving wife, Mona; his children, Penny LaViolette Martin (Andre), of Lincoln; Joey LaViolette (Lucy), of Rusagonis; his cherished grandchildren, Mitchell Martin(Taygen), Ryan Martin, Jamie LaViolette (Calah), Robert LaViolette (Stephanie), Tony LaViolette (Stephanie), and Jake Boudreau; as well as his sister, Norma LaViolette.

Besides his parents, Edgar was predeceased by his son, David and his siblings, Marie, George, Jim, Paul, Helen, Ronald and Ivan.

The family would like to thank everyone who has offered their love, support, and kindness during this difficult time.

Interment will take place at St. François Xavier Cemetery in Charlo, New Brunswick, at a later date.
