Obituary of Luke Raymund Berto

The family is heartbroken to announce the tragic passing of their beloved son, Luke Raymund Berto, on July 24, 2026, at the age of 17, as the result of a motorcycle accident while enjoying the freedom of riding—something he dearly loved. Born on August 28, 2008, Luke was the cherished son of Crystal Joyce-Berto and Terly Berto, and a devoted brother to Sophie Berto.

Luke lived with a spirit of adventure and a heart full of compassion. As a little boy, he rarely went anywhere without his beloved construction jacket and could identify every make and model of truck and piece of heavy equipment that passed by. His fascination with all things on wheels grew into a lifelong passion for cars, snowmobiles, airplanes, motorcycles, dirt bikes, and high-performance vehicles. Whether talking about horsepower, admiring an exotic car, or adding another Hot Wheels car to his collection, Luke's enthusiasm was contagious. He found wonder in the stars through his love of Interstellar, and as a child he treasured the simple lessons of WALL·E. Above all, Luke will be remembered for his generous hugs, his kind heart, his infectious smile, and the genuine joy he brought to everyone who knew him.

A recent graduate of Oromocto High School, Luke chose the graduation quote, "Tutorial completed." Those words now carry a special meaning, reminding us that, through faith in Jesus Christ, his earthly journey was only the beginning of eternal life.

Though our hearts ache beyond words, we are comforted by God's unfailing love and the hope we have in Jesus Christ. We take peace in knowing that Luke is now in the presence of his Saviour—whole, free, and filled with perfect joy. We can almost picture him riding the endless roads of heaven with the same smile, wonder, and sense of adventure that blessed us here on earth. Until we meet again, we hold tightly to God's promise that death is not the end, but the doorway to eternal life with Him.

In addition to his parents, sister and canine companions, Luke will be deeply missed by his grandparents, Elecita Fortaleza, Angela and Ben Berto, and Stanley Morris; his many aunts, uncles, cousins, his chosen grandparents, and the extended Fortaleza, Berto, Joyce, and Sullivan families; his many friends who shared his passion for adventure and the outdoors; and everyone whose life was made brighter by knowing him.

Luke was predeceased by his grandfather, Terisito Fortaleza; his grandmother, Melinda Joyce-Morris; and his grandfather, George Joyce Jr.

Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Luke's Life will be held at Oromocto Baptist Church on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception in the church hall. There will be no visitation. For those unable to attend the service, a livestream may be watched at: https://www.youtube.com/live/CevuAcffT3w

A portion of Luke's ashes will be interred on Sunday, August 2nd, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the Lower Lincoln Cemetery in Lincoln, NB. A second portion will be interred at St. James Anglican Cemetery in Lark Harbour, Newfoundland, on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 2:00 pm, with a reception to follow at the St. James Anglican Church.
