Obituary of Gerald Victor Vanstone

Jerry passed peacefully on Tuesday, June 15th, 2021, at White Rapids Manor, with his daughter by his side. Gerald was born on December 11th, 1930, in Halifax, NS, and is now at rest with the love of his life, Roberta Vanstone. Jerry will be deeply missed by his daughters Tammie Graham (Michael), Cindy Vanstone; grandchildren Rachael MacKillop (Alex Rabaa), Ian MacKilliop (Roselyn Batolina), Sheena MacMillan (Scott) and Adam Graham; great-grandchildren Rian MacKillop, Gabriel MacKillop and Hartley MacMillan. Gerald has many nieces and nephews who love and will miss him with all their hearts. Jerry joined the military at the age of 19, in 1950. Jerry served under II RCR, as an Infantry Soldier, retiring in 1987, 37 years later. Jerry was a Korean Vet. During his time in the military, he also was with The Black Watch and Airborne, having over 300 successful jumps. Jerry was very proud to serve his country and to be a Royal. Jerry also had other interests in his life. He ran marathons and was very involved in boxing both before joining the Army and during his time as a Royal. Jerry had 102 Fights, 5 Losses and 1 draw. He was inducted into The Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame, CF Hall of Fame and The New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame. Jerry was a wonderful husband, who adored his wife Roberta; she was his life. He loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart. There was something about Jerry that just made you like him as soon as you met him. He was kind, honest and one of the most loyal people you could meet. Jerry had friends all the way from young children up to men and women his own age and he loved each and every one of them. It was easy to feel happy and loved when you were around him. And we can’t forget that cigar. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and support staff at White Rapids Manor for the love, care and respect they extended to Gerald during his stay. They would also like to thank the nurses and support staff of Enhanced Living (Oromocto Special Care Home) for the same.
