Obituary of John William Duff

It is with profound sadness the family announce the passing of John William Duff on September 27th, 2021 at the Fredericton Hospice surrounded by his family. Born on January 14th, 1945 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, John was the loving husband of 55 years to Hester. Johnny served in the Black Watch RCR Cyprus and Germany. After returning from serving 40 years in the military. John, being a man who always liked to be busy, took many odds jobs doing home repairs and renovations which kept him busy over the next 25 years. Johnny enjoyed many sports. Practicing mostly in boxing, broomball, hockey and running. Over the last many years, John became known and befriended by many for his nightly 10k run around the Oromocto area, thus becoming known as the "The Man in Red". In addition to his wife, Hester (Lochead) Duff, John will be dearly missed by his children, Harold Duff (Denise) and Karen McKinnon (Dwain); his 5 grandchildren, Cody McKinnon, Amanda Themens (Paul), Zackery McKinnon, Nathan Duff and Kaylie Duff; his 6 great grandchildren; siblings, Dorothy MacDonald (Buddy), Harvey Duff (Lee), and Cecil Duff (Carol). In addition to his parents John and Dorothy Duff, John was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Davenport (Dave); his twin brother, Jimmy Duff (Dorothy); and his infant granddaughter, Cloey Duff. The family would like to thank all the extra mural health care workers who came to the house to care for him. Also, the health care workers at the Fredericton Hospice where he received excellent care during his short stay. Lastly but not least, a special thanks to Kelly and Kevin Dickson for all their loving care and support. A cremation has taken place and, at John’s request, there will not be a service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the cancer society.
