It is with sadness that the family of Joyce Jones announces her passing on August 30, 2022, at Hospice House. Born on August 28, 1924, in Upper Williamsburg, NB, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Mary (Currie) Dorcas.
Some of Joyce’s fond memories were back in Williamsburg, on the homestead farm where she grew up. She was an avid bowler in her younger days. She also loved to play cards, especially bridge, shopping, “running the roads” with friends, and spending time with people. Joyce was sharp, witty, a social butterfly, and enjoyed a couple of good drinks.
She will be greatly missed by her stepdaughter Pauline Jones; granddaughter Angela Cleven (Frank); brothers Vernon and Robert; stepgrandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her first husband Royden Thorpe; second husband John Jones; daughter Barbara Sowers; sisters Christina Hart, Florence Dorcas, Gertrude Weeks, Eva Bartlett, Greta Dorcas and Shirley Dorcas, as well as brothers Ross, Harold, Eugene, Leslie, Ralph and Wilfred.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will take place at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, September 2, 2022, at 2 pm with Rev. Mary Tingley officiating. Interment will be held at Prince William Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Hospice House Fredericton, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
