Obituary of Gerard Adrian Holland

HOLLAND, GERARD (GERRY) November 13, 1942 – September 25, 2022 The passing of Gerard (Gerry) Adrian Holland occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton on September 25, 2022 at the age of 79. Following a battle against multiple health challenges, Gerard demonstrated strength and courage until his final days. Born in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in 1942, he immigrated to Canada with his family in 1954 and lived his life in Maugerville and Burton. He was the son of the late Bernard and Bernadina (Scheers) Holland. Gerry is survived by his loving and caring wife of 47 years, Lucy (McDonough) Holland; his two sons Michael Holland (Michelle Doherty) of Burton and Robert Holland (Tara) of Greenwood, NS; and his four loving grandchildren Sullivan (Sully), Connolly, Arabella, and Hilary. Also surviving are his sister Leida Holland of Oromocto; brother William Holland (Francine) of Keswick Ridge; sister Mia Beno (Ernest) of Kingston Ontario; and his sister-in-law Mary Holland (Nol) of Fredericton. He also leaves to mourn his nieces and nephews and many cousins in Canada and the Netherlands. Besides his parents, Gerry was pre-deceased by his third son, as an infant, Hilary; his sister, Thea; and his brothers Arnold (Nol) and Herman. Having attended Agricultural College, Gerry operated the Crescendo Dairy Farm with his brothers Nol and Herman in Maugerville for many years, and moved on from farming to take up welding, carpentry and many positions that demanded his many skills, handiness and talents – principally with King Construction and Base Gagetown. Gerard was a serving member of the Knights of Columbus holding membership with the Monsignor Boyd Council 6774. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital for the care and compassion they provided. The family will receive visitors at the Oromocto Funeral Home (506) 357-5100, 108 Winnebago Street, Oromocto, NB, on Wednesday September 28, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at the St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Oromocto on Thursday September 29, 2022 at 11 am, Fr. Charles Udeh will be presiding over the ceremony. An interment will take place in the St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice in Gerard’s name would be appreciated by the family.
