Obituary of Eva Loretta Hallihan

Feb. 15, 1969 – Nov. 6, 2022

On Sunday, November 6, 2022, with very sad hearts, we lost but heaven gained a very special angel! Eva Loretta Hallihan, at the age of 53, gained her wings! Affectionately known by many nicknames such as Granny, Punk, Boo, Duck, and Ducky by family and friends, Eva herself had nicknames for everyone working with her.  She loved to tease and be teased.

She was the youngest of three children born to the late Frank and Pearlene Hallihan on February 15, 1969.  Eva is survived by her sister Jocelyn (Greg) Doucet, brother Gordon (Shelley), niece Lexi, uncles Bobby and Ivan (Leona) Hallihan, and many cousins who will forever cherish her memory.  Eva was raised in a close, loving family where everyone learned to help and care for one another.  We have been so blessed to have had Eva as part of our lives.

Eva’s life impacted many, changing us all in ways we are still realizing, with her smile, friendliness, generosity, and her great sense of humour.  Her smile and laughter melted the hearts of everyone, lighting up the room.  Eva had many friends, and people were attracted to her like to a magnet!  Eva was very content, compassionate, smart, kind and polite, and had a genuine concern for others.  She was very willing to help out.  Eva would often show visitors to their loved one’s room or how to get to the front door.  Eva was happiest helping and doing for people.

Family was very important to Eva.  She loved going home to celebrate all the holidays and just for a visit.  Personal appearance was important to her and she had a natural flair for her “matching outfits”.  Eva loved books, puzzles, shopping at the mall, doing crafts, playing cards, chatting with family and friends on the phone, eating pasta, watching movies and hockey (with her favorite team, The Leafs) while eating cheezies and drinking coffee or gingerale.

Eva was so very fortunate to have had wonderful caregivers that provided such loving care for her with all their hearts; and they became her extended family, as well as our close family friends.  She enjoyed making crafts and giving them to both staff and residents for different occasions.  Snacks and treats were also delivered.  The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at York Care Centre for the excellent care that Eva received.  Your compassion and friendship truly made it a place she called home for 30 years.  You are very much appreciated by her family!

Eva’s life has left a store of love, warmth and friendship to all who knew her.  Eva’s hearty laughter and beautiful smile leaves us with treasured memories!  You have enriched our lives!

Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Baptist Church, 10 Doyle Drive in Oromocto, NB on Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 12-3 PM, and the Funeral Service will follow at 3:30 PM with the Rev. Dr. Karl Csaszar officiating.  Interment to follow at the Burton Cemetery.  For those who wish, memorials may be made to the York Care Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice.  The service will be livestreamed and can be found at:  www.youtube.com/channel/UCLgRd7sNXdUaZ5WDaPpzYlA/streams
