I am so sad to hear the passing of both Mr and Mrs Crowe. They were my second family when we lived in Lahr, Germany. I always said that I would have Mr Crowe walk me down the aisle if my father wasn’t able to. I was so glad to have them both attend my wedding when the time came. So many special memories, and I send my heartfelt condolences to their children.

One of my dad's closest friends. Growing up I was often around Herb and Shirley, so much so that I called them "Uncle Herb" and "Aunt Shirley". It was many years before I realized I wasn't actually related to them :) They were dear friends to me and my family, who always had time to chat with me even well into adulthood.

I first met Herb in 1974 when we went to Germany. I was assigned to his gun, 25 B, with the late Woody Johnston as his driver. We were on Ex Reforger and were travelling through the towns and the gun began to over heat. Woody told Herb this and Herb said "Woody can you push it to the next town and closest Ghastof?" "I think so" Herb Woody would say and so we did, we'd pull over, raise the barrel to show we had mechanical problems, the mechanics would catch up and join us to have a beer to wait for the engine to cool down. We did this until we couldn't get away with this anymore and fell way behind. Herb was laughing all the while, with that sneaky s--- eating grin he always had. Herb you will be missed by so, so many because you were so well loved my many. My condolences to all the family and friends wherever they may be. He was a special guy and one of a kind, again my deepest sympathies. End of Mission, Old Friend, Stand Easy, Rest in Peace
