In 1972 my family moved to Oromocto right across from the Yavis family on Maclaren Ave. Lynnie and I became fast friends. We were both the youngest child in a military family, and found out that our Mothers were actually in the hospital at the same time in Germany and we were born one week apart. Over the next 8 years I spent countless days and sleepovers at the Yavis house, on Maclaren and then later at their lovely home in Geary. I was always made to feel so welcome and part of the family, my mother would often ask when I was coming home. Mrs Yavis was the ultimate mother, full of love for all of her children and grandchildren. I have many memories of my times there, probably my first exposure to pirogies and of course one that stands out was her famous macaroni and cheese which to this day is the best I have ever had. I moved away, but stayed in touch with Lynn, through Facebook and visits, and over the years I have loved seeing the special times and trips that Lynn and Mike and all of family spent with Mr and Mrs Yavis and it was so evident what a close family they were.She will be missed so much I am sure. My condolences to all of the extended family and I wish I could be there tomorrow but send my love and thoughts to all of you. Libbie.
