Obituary of Joyce Irene Bickell

It is with great sadness that the family of Joyce Bickell announce her passing at home, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, February 8, 2023 at the age of 92. Born in Hanna, AB, on June 14, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Alice (Hartt) Rose.

Our mom had fond memories sitting with her dad listening to hockey games on the radio. During the summer, she remembered playing  baseball with the local lads and would take her bat and ball home when they started cursing. As a young adult, she graduated from the Christian Community Bible College in Calgary, and then an extended education to support her family. She raised six children with loving determination and strength. We, her children, attribute her long life to her stubborn spunk.

Joyce leaves behind her 6 children, Wendy Riis (Michel) and Daniel Bickell of Alberta, Michael Bickell (Edith) of New Brunswick, Timothy Bickell of Alberta, Kerry Saulnier and Liana Lord (Daniel) of New Brunswick, along with 7 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren, and one Great Great Grandchild; sisters, Marlene Clayton of Iowa and Jean Mackenzie (Dale) of New Zealand; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to her parents, Cecil and Alice, Joyce was predeceased by her sisters, Beatrice and Viola.
