Obituary of John McKay

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our Dad, John McKay, on Friday, February 17, 2023, at Country Lane Estates in Burton, NB. Born in New Waterford, NS, on March 25, 1934, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (née Brown) McKay.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Marlene (Karl), Michele (Brian), Kevin (Liz); grandchildren, Jeffrey (Christle and son Brayden), Jason (Aleana), Jennifer (Brad), Sarah (Jake) and Andrea; great-grandchildren Leila, Odin and Joshua; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Frankie in 2022; his siblings, Margaret (Don), and twin brother, Robert (Joyce).  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Dad was a Korean Veteran and proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 32+ years, being here in Gagetown (Oromocto) since 1957.

The family would like to sincerely thank Laura McIntyre, for the compassionate and loving care Dad received while he was still at home.

We also wish to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all staff of Country Lane Estates for their wonderful support, commitment, care, compassion and love they have for each and every resident, making the “family environment” a priority in their residents’ lives.

He loved his “bingo” in all forms…from “working” bingos, to “playing” it, to his “bingo scratch tickets”.

A memorial service will be held from the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 11:00 am. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 93 will hold a tribute prior to the service at 10:45 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, the IWK, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
