Obituary of Sgt. Jean Charles Joseph Maillet

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sgt. Jean Charles Joseph Maillet on April 9th, 2023. Born on September 29, 1960, in Moncton, NB, he was the son of the late Zoel and Melanie Maillet.

Jean joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1989 and has faithfully served his country for 34 years. During his service he deployed to Former Yugoslavia, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and was still actively serving at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering at the time of his passing. 

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Anne (Babineau) Maillet; sons, Julien Maillet (Kelly), and Sebastien Maillet (Kye Todd); sisters, Paulette Allain (Gerald), Carole Donnell (Roger), and Joanne Maillet (Michel Jeffrey); brother, Laurent Maillet; sister-in-law, Lucie Harper; brothers-in-law, Marc Babineau and Andre Babineau (Beth), as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Jean was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Oscar and Chantal Babineau.

A visitation will take place at Oromocto Funeral Home on Thursday, April 13th, 2023 from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm. A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary’s Chapel, CFB Gagetown, on Friday, April 14th, 2023 at 11 am, with Padre Chinedu Chukwu as celebrant. For those unable to attend, a live stream will be available to watch at the following link, https://vimeo.com/event/3304419. In the event of technical difficulties, a recording of the service will be available at the same link the following day. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Hospice House Fredericton.
