Obituary of J. Leonard & Agnes Theriault

The family of Joseph “Leonard” Theriault, 85, of Oromocto, New Brunswick, sadly announces his passing on May 29, 2023. It is also with great sadness that the family has to announce the passing of his loving wife, Agnes Mary Theriault (Power) May 31st, 2023 at the age of 82.

Leonard was born on June 3, 1937, to Theophile and Stella (Chamberlain) Theriault in Bathurst, New Brunswick. Agnes was born on October 26th, 1940 to Alley and Mary Power  in Bathurst, New Brunswick. On August 25th, 1958 Leonard married Agnes Power, going on to have three children, Pamela (Levesque), Len, and Rose-Anne. Leonard served in the Canadian Armed Forces for  33 years, in the Artillery, with postings in Canada and Germany, and serving in peace keeping missions in Cyprus. Agnes over the years was a homemaker then worked in retail as a cook and at a local craft store.

Leonard was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved the outdoors and shared with his family many happy memories of adventures with various wildlife, from wolves taking a drink at his campsite, to making breakfast for a racoon who slept at his feet during the night. Leonard also loved gardening and amazed his family when he decided to take up oil painting in his 70's. Agnes loved to knit, crochet, needlepoint, all manner of crafts, cake decorating and quilting. She too loved to garden and was also active in Girl Guides of Canada as a leader in her younger adult years.

Leonard is lovingly remembered by his sisters Marie, Viola, Jeanette, Leona, and Diane. He was predeceased by his brothers David and Daniel Theriault. Agnes is also lovingly remembered by her sisters Shirley and Jean. She was predeceased by her sisters Rita and Priscilla. Agnes and Leonard will be remembered by many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family are so grateful for the care and attentiveness and are thankful for the doctors, nurses and staff at Oromocto Public Hospital and the DECH in Fredericton.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Oromocto Funeral Home. There will be a visitation for Leonard and Agnes on Friday, June 2, 2023 from 4-7 pm at the Oromocto Funeral Home in Oromocto, New Brunswick. Their service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11 am from the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel with a reception to follow. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Leonard, Parkinson Canada in memory of Agnes or a charity of the donor’s choice.
