Obituary of Harold Joseph Brine

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Harold Brine, the last survivor of the Springhill Bump from 1958. Harold was born in Springhill, NS, on June 25, 1932. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his wife, Murriel; daughter, Bonnie; granddaughter, LuAnne; dear neighbour (Harold would say, adopted grandson) Jody; and all the family members who could not be there, but were there in spirit, especially his grandson Darren (Sheri), and great grandson, Andrew.

He was predeceased by his mother, Harriet "Haddy" Matheson Brine, and father Gerald "Jerry" Brine, his sisters and brother in-laws, Geraldine Brown (Curtis "Buddy") and Lorraine Rector (Albert "Abby"). Harold will be missed by all his cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and their children.

He was a caring, kind, generous, humble, and courageous man. Murray Scott, Mayor of Cumberland County and former member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly told him, "you may be gone, but you will not be forgotten. You are an important part of Springhill's history."

Harold made the courageous decision to use Medical Assistance in Dying and the family would like to thank all who cared for him during this difficult time. He was at peace and felt privileged to be able to make this decision, on his terms, to not suffer any further.

Cremation has already taken place and as per Harold's wishes, there will be no service. He will be laid to rest in the Mapleton Cemetery in Nova Scotia.

All donations can be made to the Heart and Lung Association.
