Obituary of Beatrice Joyce Stevens

It is with great sadness that the family of Beatrice Joyce (Currie) Stevens of Geary, NB, announces her passing at Hospice House Fredericton on September 9, 2023. Born on December 14, 1946, in Fredericton, NB, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Mavis (Atkinson) Currie.

She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband, John Stevens, of 57 years; daughters, Wanda Foster (Jerry) and Wendy Stevens (Rodney); son, Michael Stevens; sisters, Linda Drummond (Guy) and Judy Donovan (late Reece); grandchildren, Erica Foster (Shane), Emma Foster and Owen Barrieau (Allison), as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sister, Shirley Welbon (Willy), and brother, Kenny Currie.

Bea worked at Scott’s Nursery for 18 years before retiring to keep her grandchildren, and becoming a “community grandmother”. She also volunteered at the Geary Elementary School for many years while her children and grandchildren attended.

“Nan” would do anything for her grandchildren, including backyard bonfires, baking fancy cookies for school occasions and trips to the Country Pumpkin to see the animals and get ice cream. They will miss her dearly.

Bea loved gardening and her flowers were a passion until the very end, as well as baking and cooking for others. She also enjoyed spending time at the Lakeside Campground with her “Lake Family”, enjoying campfires, pot lucks and boat rides. Bea loved her trips with John out West to visit Mike. They were able to explore and enjoy adventures with a great tour guide, Udo, who became a close friend who always reached out during these last few months.

Bea loved her family and would always be there for every occasion to celebrate.  She will always be remembered for her kindness to others and always being there to lend a helping hand.

The family would like to thank the nurses of Extra Mural Oromocto and the staff of Hospice House for the wonderful care and compassion shown to our wife/mom during this time.

The family would like to invite you to come and share your stories at a celebration of life at the Geary Lions Center, on Saturday, September 16th from 2 - 4pm.

For those who wish to make a donation in Bea’s memory, the family has suggested Hospice House Fredericton or a charity of your choice.
