Obituary of Freda E Maysfield

Freda E Maysfield of Gagetown, NB has passed away peacefully at the Oromocto Public Hospital on September 28, 2023, surrounded by family and her beloved dog, Nicky.

Freda was born May 6, 1938, in Gagetown to John and Elise McNally. Her mother passed away when Freda was very young, so she was then raised by her father and grandparents.

Freda married Norman Maysfield and she went to teacher’s college to begin her long rewarding career teaching elementary students.

She had a great passion for growing her own vegetables and berries, along with her beautiful flower gardens and house plants. She was especially proud of her rose bushes and lilies. It was always an ongoing battle with the squirrels to see if they would leave her bulbs in the ground. She made beautiful floral arrangements and would often volunteer to make special ones for an event.

She loved watching out the window for any species of birds, especially Cardinals and Blue Birds. She loved sharing the news with everyone. Her binoculars were always on the table with her bird book. She looked forward to the arrival of the hummingbirds each spring and fed all birds well all season.

Freda loved to knit, read, paint, and cook. Many new babies have received beautiful blankets over the years, and she always had a pair of thrum mitts on the go. There were always lots of pies in the freezer and jams, jellies, and pickles for sharing.

In years past, Freda loved to play darts and still enjoyed a good game of cribbage or cards when she was able to get out to play. She had also loved to hunt and fish and was a pretty good shot. She loved to hear everyone’s hunting experiences, especially the tall tails.

Freda was always up to travel and had many great trips with friends. She especially enjoyed several winters in Florida as she became less fond of our Cananadian winters. She made many friends and loved to socialize.

She always had her hair done, and makeup and jewelry on. She loved to shop, whether for groceries, garden supplies, or clothing. A trip to town could be a marathon event.

Freda was predeceased by her husband Norman, her parents, and her sister Anna. She is survived by siblings Don McNally (Monica), Bob McNally and Barb McFarlane, stepdaughter Faye Johnson (Tom) and many family members and friends.

As per Freda’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private burial will take place at St. Stephen’s Anglican Cemetery in Queenstown.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Oromocto SPCA, the Kidney Foundation, or a charity of the donors’ choice.
