Obituary of Gary David Hiltz
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gary David Hiltz, of Waterville Road, Sunbury County, on December 21, 2023. Gary lost his life attempting to prevent the flooding of his home due to the extended power outage as a result of the last storm.
After graduating Oromocto High School, Gary went to St. Thomas University until he was offered a job as a manager with Optyl Canada Ltd., where he worked until the company closed. After Optyl, Gary went to work for CanRay/ThermaRay, where he worked as Production Manager until his retirement. He was looking forward to a relaxing retirement and spent most winters vacationing with his brother Laurie and his sister-in-law Paula down south and at Disney.
He always enjoyed the huge turkey boils held at his brother Thomas and other sister-in-law Lois’ house. Gary was a faithful attendee at the regular Optyl Canada Retirees Breakfast gatherings and took great joy in the get-togethers.
Gary was an avid reader and rarely found a book that he did not enjoy.
In addition to his parents, John and Elizabeth “Betty” Hiltz, Gary is predeceased by his nephew Tommy Jr. He is survived by his brothers, Laurie Hiltz (Paula), Michael Hiltz (Dean), Thomas Hiltz (Lois); his nephew, Shane Hiltz, and his great-nephew, Logan Hiltz.
There will be a private family interment at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Oromocto SPCA, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Sadly missed, but always in our memory. Rest in peace, Gary.
