Marita Bishop

Obituary of Marita June Bishop

It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of Marita June (Barton) Bishop on April 11th, 2024 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Marita passed away peacefully at the age of 78 with her family by her side.

Born on April 27th, 1945 in Chipman, NB, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Amber Barton.

Marita grew up in Chipman with 11 siblings, and enjoyed many activities as a young person including basketball and tending the family horses. She was a loving wife to Raymond for over 60 years, and had followed her husband to Oromocto where Raymond served with the Canadian Armed Forces in Base Gagetown.  She enjoyed a career with the Oromocto School District as an accounting administrator, and happily retired in her early 50's to pursue home interests.  She enjoyed many home activities, including developing beautiful flower and vegetable garden areas, craft painting, and more. Marita loved to cook, and the family especially looked forward to Sunday dinners where Marita would proudly prepare meals that always seemed to surpass the last, and she wasn't happy until everyone was full to bursting!  Marita also loved raising her German Shepherd companions in earlier years, Janna, Reba, and Sheena.

Marita will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Raymond Edward Bishop; her children, Vickie Elaine Ouellette of Penniac, NB and
Constance Eileen Bishop of Lincoln, NB; her grandchildren, Cory Breen and Brett Breen; her great-grandchildren, Jacob, Wren and Vaughn; her sisters, Vera Casey of Minto, NB and Maryann Richard of Amherst NS; as well as by her good friends.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brothers Eugene, Jack, Gordon, Frank, Roger, and Donny; and her sisters Della, Eva and Carol.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital for the caring and compassionate support shown to
Marita and family during her last days there. The family would also like to extend special thanks to Dr. Heather Stairs, Dr. Margot Burnell and staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Dr. Justin Parker, and Dr. Jillian Goodyear.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Oromocto Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago St, Oromocto, NB (506) 357-5100. In keeping with Marita's wishes, cremation has taken place. The service details will be announced when they are available.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Chalmers Foundation or to the charity of one's choice.
