Obituary of Cynthia Polchies

It is with great sadness that the family of Cynthia Polchies of Oromocto First Nation announce her peaceful passing at Hospice House Fredericton on June 15th, 2024. Cindy was born in Oromocto, New Brunswick, on November 30, 1956, to her late parents Charlie and Annabelle Sark.

Cindy is predeceased by her son Christopher Polchies, great grand-daughter Kinsley Smith; brothers, Charles Sark, Jimmy Sark, and Frank Sark; sisters, Evelina Presnail and Joyce Ward.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years Manuel “Menzer” Polchies of Oromocto First Nation; children, Crystal Polchies (Brian), Calesta Polchies (Alphonse), and Christian Polchies (Cheryl); grandchildren, Mitchell Vienneau, Savannah Ferguson, Ally Vienneau (Terrance), Taylor Polchies (Jamie), Emma Vienneau, Hunter Polchies (Taylor), Horatio Polchies, Trenna Polchies, Tarynn Polchies, Natalie Vienneau, Kennedy Polchies, Lydia Vienneau and Nevaeh Polchies; great grandchildren Saphira, Terrance, Jackson, Layne, and River and a great granddaughter due to arrive in October; brother Gerald Sark and sister Diane Peter-Paul; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses at the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital, the Wik-Cihpolakon Senior Care home in Kingsclear, NB and Hospice House Fredericton for their dedication and care of Cindy and their support to her family.

Cindy worked as an Indigenous Resource teacher at Waasis Road Junior High (Ridgeview Middle School). She was a spokesperson for Native Women’s Rights, and was the first female Councilor at Oromocto First Nation. Later in life, Cythina loved working at the OFN Lounge for many years. She loved to travel, loved bingo, playing cards, spending her spare time with family and friends gathered in her home, whether it was a birthday celebration, BBQ on the deck or just to enjoy company. She was a caring woman who was always putting others before herself. She was everyone’s favorite Aunt, and an amazing Grandmother. Cindy was the family’s matriarch; she made sure her house was filled with love and bellies were filled with food. Cindy will be remembered as a strong, powerful, and loving woman; she will be greatly missed by many.

There will be a visitation held at Cynthia and Menzer's home, at 25 Wel-a-mook-took Street on Oromocto First Nation, Tuesday June 18th, and Wednesday, June 19th from 1pm-6pm both days. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Thursday, June 20th at 11:00 am with Father Abazie as celebrant with the burial to follow. A reception will be held in the Church Hall following the interment.
