Obituary of Robert William McPhail

It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Robert “Bob” William McPhail of Oromocto, New Brunswick, announce his death at York Care Center on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at the age of 75.  Bob was born on May 26, 1949 in Edmundston, New Brunswick, and was the son of the late Russell and Patricia (Lynn) McPhail.

He is survived by his wife, Judy (MacTavish) McPhail; daughter, Jennifer McPhail (Jason Madore); son, Matthew McPhail (Stephanie Hall); 3 grandchildren, Max Madore, and Jack and Beth McPhail; brother, Larry McPhail and brother-in-law, Ron MacIsaac.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Nancy MacIsaac.

Bob and his family moved to Fredericton in the early 1950’s and lived in Sunshine Gardens where many happy childhood memories were made with the neighbours.  He started his working career with J.E. Brooks and Associates, and from there went to work as the Technical Services Officer for the Town of Oromocto.  In 1981, he became the Superintendent of the Oromocto Public Works.

Bob loved the summer place at Grand Lake and was usually the first one there in the spring and the last to leave in the fall.  He was always ready for a BBQ and a game of cards.  Bob looked forward to the winter trips to California, which he loved, and the yearly pre-Christmas visit to Boston.

Everyone who knew Bob will miss his easy going demeanor, his joking, and his smile.

The family would like to thank York Care Center for the excellent care that he received there.

A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, 224 York Street, Fredericton, New Brunswick, on Thursday, June 27, 2024, beginning at 11:00am, with Rev. Ellen Beairsto officiating, assisted by Pastor Normand McDonald. This was Bob’s childhood church where many family events were held.  A private family burial will be taking place at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations would be appreciated to the York Care Center Foundation.
