Obituary of John Hanlon
It is with great sadness the family of John “Jack” Lawrence Hanlon announce his passing surrounded by his family at his home on Friday, November 22, 2024 at the age of 84. Born on October 20, 1940, in St. John’s, NL.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Helma Hanlon; 5 children, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and one sister. He was predeceased by his mother, Amy Collins; sister, Debbie; and infant twin brother, Wayne.
Dad proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces with the Guards and RCR for 36 years and did many tours overseas.
His passion was collecting old radios and tv’s and fixing them up, which he was very good at!
Dad fought a hard battle at home. With the love, care and commitment of his family for 18 months before God took him home to be with his mom and his precious companion dog “Sophie”.
Dad you will never be forgotten for your strength and determination and love you had for us!
You never said “Im leaving”, You never said “Goodbye”,
You were gone before we knew it, and only God Knows Why!
A million times we needed you, a million times we’ve cried,
If love could have saved you, you never would have died!
In life you loved us dearly, in death we love you still.
In our hearts, you hold a place, no one will ever fill!
It broke our hearts to lose you, you didn’t go alone.
Part of us went with you. The day God took you home!
