Obituary of Frederick Augustus Briggs
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Frederick Augustus Briggs announces his passing on Monday, October 15, 2018, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB.
Born in Upper Gagetown, NB, August 7, 1936, he was the son of the late Jacob and Edna (Close) Briggs. Fred retired in 1993 from CFB Gagetown after 35 years of Civil Service. For many years, Fred was an active member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Gagetown, as well as the Orange Lodge and the Royal Black Preceptory. He believed in staying involved and giving back to his community and did so every month by playing music at the Gagetown Special Care Home and Gagetown Nursing Home.
Fred is survived by his daughters Wendy Jones (Patrick) of Hoyt, NB, Christina Harper (Kenneth) of Waterville Road, Sunbury County, NB, and Tina Kelly (Wade) of Geary, NB; grandchildren Graham, Mark, Jacob, Abigail, Chantel and Kyle; great grandchildren Owen, Lucas, Chelsea and Brianna; a sister Addie Donovan of Upper Gagetown, NB, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his spouse Yvonne Stella; a brother Woodford and a sister Betty.
In keeping with Fred’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018, at 2:00 PM at St. John’s Anglican Church, Gagetown, NB. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred’s memory can be made to St. John’s Anglican Church Maintenance Fund or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
