Obituary of Christopher Yavis

It is with sad hearts that the family of Christopher Yavis announce his passing on November 4, 2018 at the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton. Though proud of his 32-year military career with 2RCHA in the Canadian Armed Forces, we will forever remember him as the best dad ever. Born in Hanna, Alberta on September 18, 1928, he was the youngest of five children. He will be missed by his wife of 68 years, Helen Yavis. In addition to Helen, he is survived by his children Laura (Blaine) Smith, Catherine (Greg) Foster, Leslie (Ernie) Romans, Casey (Marjorie) Yavis, and Lynn (Michael) Park. He was a proud of his 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Conrad, granddaughters Jacqueline and Penny and great-granddaughter Rebecca. Christopher will be fondly remembered for his family adventures. They included camping trips in Europe and Canada, Sunday drives where he wouldn’t tell anyone where he was going, except to say "crazy", evenings at the drive-in theatre, apple picking, day trips to the beach and fun at home with a golf course he made for them in the back yard. Christopher was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Oromocto Legion. At his request, there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 am from St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Oromocto. Fr. Ken Weir will officiate. Interment will be at a later date. Special thanks to the nurses and staff of the Veterans Health Unit; their excellent care of dad was so appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations in Christopher’s name can be made to Parkinson Canada.
