Obituary of Elizabeth MacQuade

Fighting an ongoing battle with psoriatic arthritis, Liz, over the years, endured surgeries to replace both knees, a hip and her jaw but died on Tuesday, November 6 in the Fredericton Hospital due to a massive stroke. Her sister Nancy, and friend Lee, were by her side. Liz, age 55, will be missed very much by her parents, Robert and Margaret MacQuade of Moncton, her sister Catherine (Douglas) Fraser of Calgary, sister Nancy (Gerry deceased) MacQuade Webb of the Village of Gagetown, nieces Gillian (Fraser) Hogg, Hillary and Leslie Fraser and a Grand Niece Eleanor; Uncle Bill (Dorothy) of Sanford, Maine and their children Debbie and Darrell - and a special friend, Fiona Christensen. Liz grew up in Moncton attending Bessborough and Moncton High Schools where she excelled in badminton and basketball. She also loved soft ball and golf. After receiving her B.Com. from Queen's University, she spent a year in France studying the language and travelling to various parts of Europe. In 1986 she met her parents in Hong Kong and travelled in China with them for 2 weeks and then remained there for another two weeks travelling on her own before she boarded the Trans Siberian Rail which would take her through Russia and other countries. Nancy joined her in Frankfurt, Germany and the two rented a car and explored 8 countries in less than three weeks. While Liz was travelling, she decided she wanted to be a journalist so on her return home she enrolled at King's College in Halifax and began a new journey which would take her to the Dalhousie News and the Telegraph Journal in Moncton. Her curiosity about people and happenings never left her as she still wanted to know the Who? What? Where? When? Why? and How?, whether it pertained to local or provincial politics or world affairs, right up until her death. Shortly after Nancy and Gerry moved to Gagetown, Liz came for a visit, fell in love with the Village and never left. She made her home with Nancy and Gerry and was soon adopted by the folks there. Her favourite companions were her cats Sawyer, Finn and Squeeks who gave her much joy and comfort. The family wish to thank Dr. Haines for his tender care; the extra mural staff who came so faithfully, her many friends who visited, played games with her, brought her favourite foods, cut her hair and allowed her the privilege of being the Quiz Master at the regular trivia nights. All these acts of kindness made her life richer and more fulfilling. The funeral arrangements are under the care of Oromocto Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Liz’s life will be held at Grace United Church, in the Village of Gagetown, on Friday, November 9th at 4:00 pm. It will be immediately followed by a reception at The Old Boot Pub. Donations may be made to the Oromocto & Area SPCA or a charity of your choice. Her exorbitant laughter will long be remembered!
