Obituary of Peter Doherty

Peter Doherty died with his loving family at his side on May 5th in Oromocto after a brave and courageous battle with IPF lung disease at the age of 59. Peter is the son of the late Jean and Sholly Doherty and is survived by his four sons, who were his greatest pride and love, Mark (Brittany Bagnall), Luke, Matthew and Micah; Peter’s siblings, Marilynn (Steve Kirchgessner), Jeanette (George Scott), Susan (Steve Stairs), Tim (Cindy), and the late George (Gail Mills); he loved his three precious grandchildren, Cooper, Gray and Markus. He was also very proud of his many nieces and nephews, Tracy, Stephanie, Joel, Chris, Jenny, Jason, Amanda, Kelley, Brad, Jeff and Jasmine. Pete appreciated his ‘work brother’ Bernie McLaughlin who Pete called the world’s second best carpenter, also had a special love for Sienne, his longtime housekeeper, caregiver (second Mom) who was near and dear to his heart, as well as his puppy love ‘Lily’ along with his many cousins, close friends, relatives and of course his special love. Peter was well known for his many accomplishments as an entrepreneur from the early days of Decks Unlimited, Peter Doherty Builders, O’town Auto as well as his 39 years at the Town of Oromocto where he grew some of his greatest friendships. At last count, Peter was responsible for building almost 50 homes in Oromocto! Peter lived for the river and loved the life that went with it. He was a legend on the water and was loved and well known cruising the river on the ‘Blew By you’ house boat that represented some legendary stories! Special thanks and appreciation for the many years of friendship and care go to his friend and greatest supporter Dr Peter Fraser. We also cannot capture the words to express our appreciation to Father Weir for his long standing support for the Doherty family which he again exemplified in offering care and support for Peter. Special thanks to sister Jeanette and nephew Joel for doing everything possible to provide support, comfort and care and our deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Oromocto hospital for their amazing care and compassion. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Oromocto Funeral Home from 3 – 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 12:05 pm with Fr. Ken Weir as celebrant. Interment will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery. For those that wish, memorial donations may be made to NB Lung Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
