Obituary of MWO Christopher Morrison

The family of the Late Christopher Morrison of Burton, NB, sadly announce his passing on Saturday, June 29th, 2019 at the Oromocto Public Hospital after a short battle with stage IV throat cancer (he was not a smoker). Chris was born in Toronto, Ontario on June 5th, 1932 to the Late Christopher "Pat" Morrison of Toronto, ON (formerly of County Sligo, Ireland) and the Late Margaret Morrison (nee Rogers) of Toronto, ON (formerly of County Tyrone, Ireland). He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving daughter, Kimberley Morrison, Burton, NB, his best friend and son, Michael Morrison, Burton, NB, as well as his cherished grandson Christopher Michael Morrison, Moncton, NB. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Mary "Louise" Morrison (nee Cripps) (formerly of Chatham, NB) in July 2011, both of his parents, as well as his sister, Mary Margaret Morrison. He was also predeceased by his brothers-in-law Bernard Cripps, Dauphin, MB; Benedict (Benny) Cripps, Chatham, NB; Allen Cripps, Mississauga, ON, and Robert Henley, Smithville, ON. He was predeceased by his sisters-in-law Aileen Cripps, Chatham, NB; Anita (Allen) Cripps, Brampton, ON; Joan (Louis) Cripps, Chatham, NB, as well as nephews David Cripps and Glen Cripps. Besides his children and grandson, he is survived by his brothers-in-law Raymond (Joan) Cripps, Chatham, NB; Louis (Betty) Cripps, Chatham, NB; as well as sisters in-law Arlene (Benny deceased) Cripps, Chatham, NB; Bernice Leet (Bill), Dartmouth, NS; and Priscilla (Robert deceased) Henley, Smithville, ON, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In 1947, Chris made his way to the Recruiting Office in Toronto to sign up for a stint in the Canadian Army. That stint led him to serving his country for 37 years of continuous service. He started his military career as a driver, before moving on to Clerk RCASC, Transportation Controller and finally as a Traffic Technician. He started his career in Borden, and spent time in Toronto; Debert, NS; Churchill, MB; and Chatham, NB (where he would meet his future bride). Chris and Louise were married on June 27th, 1959, and a few days later they set sail for London, England where he was posted to. Upon their return to Canada, he was posted to Ottawa, Petawawa, and finally to CFB Gagetown where he finally retired as Master Warrant Officer in 1984 and settled in Burton, NB. During his military career he spent a year in Korea and was a Korean Vet as well as completing 2 UN tours in Cyprus and Egypt. More than anything Chris was the happiest being a husband, father and grandfather and loved being home with his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. He was a jack of all trades, and he loved to putter and tinker around the house or garage. He had a lot of patience and was very generous. He had a beautiful singing voice and in his younger days liked to play the guitar. He loved animals and loved to sit outside in the backyard or on the deck with his son and feed the many squirrels and chipmunks that made their way into the backyard. He never left the house without arming himself with a pocket full of peanuts, just in case he was hijacked by the chipmunks or squirrels waiting for him as he made his way out of the house and down the stairs. He was Roman Catholic by faith and formerly attended St. Vincent de Paul Church in Oromocto, with his late wife Mary Louise Morrison (nee Cripps). Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Chris’s wishes, there will be no local visitation or funeral service. A service for family and friends will be planned and held in the Miramichi at a later date, with interment of both Chris and Louise’s ashes in the St. Michaels Basilica Catholic Church cemetery.
