Obituary of Hazel Norma Thompson

The world lost a strong and resilient woman on October 14, 2019 when Hazel Norma Thompson passed away at Thomas Hall, Shannex, Fredericton, formerly of Burton, NB with her loving family watching over her. Born on May 8, 1939 in North Forks, NB, she was the only child of the late Acey and Leila Thompson. She was predeceased by her husband David Lawson Thompson in August 2003. Survived by her daughter Crystal McKay (Greg) of Fredericton, NB; her grandson David (Starlene) of Drayton Valley, AB, her two great grandsons, Lawson of Burton, NB and Ty of Drayton Valley, AB and a step great granddaughter, Payzleigh of Drayton Valley, AB. She is also survived by her cat, Kiwi, who had to be rehomed in October 2017 once we knew Hazel would not be able to go back home. Kiwi now lives in a very loving home where her new cat mom and dad send regular updates and pictures. Hazel really enjoyed receiving these updates. Prior to marrying David in November of 1959, Hazel worked at the Lantic Sugar Refinery in Saint John, NB. She was an air force wife with postings that took her and David to Nova Scotia, Germany, Manitoba, Quebec and finally back to New Brunswick where they settled and retired. Her interests included cooking, cats, reading, word search puzzles, gardening and bird watching. A special thanks to the many caregivers who provided love and care over the years, to the staff of Thomas Hall, Shannex, and last but not the least, Crystal’s lifelong friend Darlene Connelly-Lucas who visited Hazel and stepped up to the plate when Crystal couldn’t be there. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Oromocto Funeral Home, with visitation hours on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 4-7pm. The funeral service will be held from the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 1:00 pm followed immediately by the burial in the Burton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Hazel’s memory can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
