Obituary of Elizabeth Agnes Hill

After a long period of challenging health, Elizabeth "Betty" A. Hill, passed away at the Oromocto Public Hospital On Sunday, October 13th, 2019. Born in Saint John, NB on February 8th, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Lucien and Jessie (McIntyre) Ritchie. In Betty’s earlier days, she played baseball, volleyball and enjoyed speed skating. That passion for sports continued throughout her life. She was an avid fan and loved to watch a good ball game or hockey game. Betty enjoyed life, and some of her favourite places to spend time was with her sister Helen Wood in White’s Cove. She also had many wonderful RVing weekends in her trailer. She loved to play cards, especially crib, 45’s and wizard with her friends. Betty worked for the Royal bank in Saint John before coming to Oromocto where she worked in Base Supply at CFB Gagetown. She also spent a year on the Board of Directors in 2004 for York Credit Union in Oromocto and was a faithful parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Oromocto. Betty’s personality was unlike any other. She was strong minded and she had her own particular way of doing things. Her home was kept immaculately, she always dressed impeccably and her date squares were legendary. Betty was certainly an original and if you were counted among her friends, then a friend indeed you had. She is survived by her brothers; Arnold (Rosalie) Ritchie of Saint John and Jim (Eunice) Ritchie of Ontario; her sister Mary Lou McEvoy of Saint John and several nieces and nephews. Betty will be dearly missed by her friends Joan and Isabel. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers; Lucien, Bob, Struan and Michael and her sisters; Jessie, Winnifred, Helen, Rose Marie and Eileen. Special thanks to Dr. White and the doctors, nurses and staff of the OPH and also Extramural - Oromocto, for their support and care of Betty. As per Betty’s request, a Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, October 17th, 2019 from St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at 12:00 pm followed by interment in the Church Cemetery.
