Obituary of Dorothy Marie Jennings

It is with profound sadness that the family of Dorothy Marie (Keizer) Jennings announce her sudden and unexpected passing on Thursday, February 13, 2020, at the Oromocto Public Hospital at age 84. Dorothy "Dot" was born in Fairview, NS on October 12, 1935. She grew up there, graduated high school and met the love of her life soon afterward, Alderman "Al" Jennings. They married, had a son Paul and then some years later had a daughter Katherine, who died at birth. Al was a military man and in 1965 was posted from Halifax to CFB Gagetown in Oromocto, so Dorothy and Paul accompanied him to their new home. Dorothy had another son Ritchie and proceeded to raise two boys along with Al. It could not have been easy for mom, as dad was extremely involved in all sports (playing and later coaching softball and hockey) and mom was not much of a sports fan herself. Nonetheless, she endured in this male sports dominated family and supported Al and her boys in all they did. Dad may have been at the forefront of our family, but mom was the rock foundation that allowed him to do so. She was his best friend and greatest supporter and consequently ours as well. She was a kind soul who had a great heart and sense of humour. She was a quiet person but always had a great ear and gave great advice. She loved and cared for all her family. Most of her life was spent as a homemaker, though she did work at E.M. Young Hardware for over a decade. She loved cooking, baking, and tending her garden and flowers in her yard, which she kept beautifully. We, as her sons, couldn’t have asked for a better mother. We were truly blessed to have been raised by her. We will miss her greatly every day but we will treasure her time with us just as much. We love you, mom, always and forever. Dorothy is survived by her sons Paul from Cambridge ON and Ritchie (Christina) from Oromocto NB; brothers Richard, Ernest, Murray, Jimmy and John; sisters Judy and Rachel; grandchildren Jamie Lee, Melanie and Darren as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Alderman "Al" Jennings; parents Percy and Hazel (Ferguson) Keizer; an infant daughter Katherine Ann; brothers "Sonny" Percy Jr., Bernie, Eddie and Harold; sisters Shirley, Joyce, Gloria and Betty Ann. A heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at Oromocto Public Hospital's Duffie Unit for their care of Mom. A service will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 2:00pm in the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Canon Walter Williams officiating. An inurnment will take place later in the spring at the Oromocto Pioneer Garden Cemetery. For those who wish, donations made in Dorothy’s memory to the Hospice House Fredericton would be appreciated.
