Obituary of Warren Menzak
After a recent diagnosis of cancer, he passed away peacefully with his love of 21 years, (Colleen Belanger) at his side. Two of his happiest moments were when his daughters Rayne (2000) and Morgan (2002) were born, don’t think it’s possible to have a father prouder of his girls.
Warren grew up in Lethbridge, Alberta and was the baby of three boys. Tim (predeceased) and Mike. He eventually moved to Calgary, Alberta where he worked for a few years with Mike in construction as a drywall taper before venturing out on his own. Ham and Colleen got together, had two girls, and they were posted to Wainwright, Alberta. In Wainwright, Warren worked with CE as the base painter. As with the military, Colleen was posted to Edmonton, Alberta but Ham stayed behind in Wainwright with the girls as she was deployed overseas. He was a great Mr. Mom. After she returned, they were posted to the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC, USA for four years. There, Warren worked as building maintenance and in the mailroom. Once their time in the states was over, they moved to Oromocto, New Brunswick where, after leaving the military, it was decided that they would stay. Ham enjoyed working at Freeman’s Convenience as it was more like a retirement job, for he enjoyed the social aspect of it. It didn’t matter where he went he always made friends.
Ham could always be counted on to greet you with a warm smile and a helping hand. He was one of the friendliest teddy bears that you’d ever meet.
If it was a sport that he played, he was good at it, well, unless it was golf. He had a slice that would amaze, and a hook that would baffle. To think, Ham shot the straightest the year he golfed one handed because of a shoulder injury! He loved his Tuesday nights out with the boys bowling 5 pin, even when it was a bad night it was still good and when he played darts, it didn’t matter, it was always fun.
Warren leaves behind his mother Heidi, his brother Mike (Bobby) of Lethbridge, AB and his nieces and nephews.
We take solace in knowing that he has made up the foursome of his father Kost, brother Tim, and father-in-law Bob and that they’ve probably already shot a few rounds.
Colleen, Rayne and Morgan would like to thank all the staff at the Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB for making Ham as comfortable as they could and taking such good care of him.
A memorial service will be held once the ban on group gathering has been lifted. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Warren Menzak’s Memorial Fund for his daughters. The information will be made available through the Oromocto Funeral Home.
